Kids Safe Alone

We thank the sponsor of our Kids Safe Alone program:
Tucson Electric Power

KIDS SAFE ALONE is an expanded and enhanced educational program that the Southern Arizona Red Cross offers to middle school and high school students in our low-income, impoverished neighborhoods in the Tucson area.

Studies have shown that many families in these communities cannot afford formal childcare or after-school programs for their children. Consequently, children who do not have a parent or caregiver at home for safety and care before or after school become latchkey kids. These children are at higher risk for injury, abduction or death. KIDS SAFE ALONE addresses this critical need by offering life-saving training to families in these neighborhoods as well as providing the opportunity for need-based scholarship assistance for their children.

The six-hour KIDS SAFE ALONE program is an adaptation and enhancement of our current Babysitter Safety Training (BST) programs. It trains older children and teens in the basic skills to stay safe, know what to do in the event of an emergency, and to take appropriate action until help arrives.

For more information about KIDS SAFE ALONE, please contact Laura Kitt-Hailey at (520) 318-6869.
